Today's Random Catechism Quote - The Desire for God

A random quote from one of many creeds and catechisms that I find helpful...

"The desire for God is written in the human heart, Because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself.

Catechism of the Catholic Church, Part One, Section One, Chapter One, I, paragraph 27.

This catechism is a a bit universalistic, is it not? Doesn't inscripturated revelation indicate that God does not draw everyone to Himself? And, does it not also indicate that those whom He does draw will come to Him Since, then, all men do not come to Him, He must not draw all men.

I leave the mystery of election to God. I do believe that God has created all those made in his image to long for him and desire him, even if the desire and longing become misguided along the way. Creation rings forth the grandeur and wisdom and goodness of of God; the conscience bears witness to someone or something to which one is accountable; and the free offer of the gospel goes forth unto all who can hear - as with their ears - or see or read. As long as there remains the light of general or special revelation then I think this beautiful statement from the Catholic catechism is true, and is a matter of praise. I almost dropped the last phrase knowing that some Calvinist brother would make comment, but I tire of all that, and I think the statement is true.

PSALM 22:27-28 (NIV)
ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
will remember and turn to the LORD,
and ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE NATIONS
will bow down before him,
for dominion belongs to the LORD
and HE RULES OVER THE NATIONS.
