On a warm summer day I thought I would give you a little breath of chill from this wintry picture taken in western North Carolina, from the top of Shining Rock, in Shining Rock Wilderness Area. It happened to be approximately 20 below Fahrenheit the day and night I was there. I like this picture because you can see the snowy trail below. I believe that that is the Old Butt Trail. Shining Rock, like Joyce Kilmer, is also a very cool place, thought the two are very different from each other, Shining Rock being much more alpine. And they are both in our state.
